  Gauchos' experience nips young bears
In front of nearly 1000 fans, the University of California Golden Bears faced off against the #3 ranked USCB Gauchos. Things got off to a quick start with senior midfield captain Cameron Sampson scoring three of his four goals on the night in the game's first five minutes. The Gauchos owned the next 20 minutes with a seven goal run. During half-time, the Bears found their composure and late in the third quarter posted another five minute/three goal charge...

The Bears win their season opener!
In front of approximately 400 fans, the California Golden Bears beat the UC Davis Aggies 4-3. Davis scored the first goal of the game, for their only lead of the night. The Bears answered with two first quarter goals. The game slowed down as both defenses went to work only allowing one goal for each team in the 2nd and the 4th quarters. Davis fought hard for the full 60 minutes, but the experienced Bears squad held on to win.

A Wide Open Race in the WCLL Central

WCLL LogoBy Marc Lea
The teams of the WCLL’s Central Division have produced lofty achievements on the highest stage virtual varsity lacrosse has to offer. From Cal’s 1998 national title march to Stanford’s Cinderella run to the 2001 MCLA title game to Cal Poly’s four national tournament appearances in a five-year span, the current WCLL Central teams have enjoyed some remarkable accomplishments. In what has to be considered a down year, none of the Central teams earned a trip to Dallas last season, a shortfall that has occurred just three times in the eleven year history of the national tournament.

Can one of the big three surge back to the top and put together a strong post-season run? Or can a steadily improving Santa Clara squad finally break out of the shadows and claim their first Central Division title? Without an obvious front runner, predicting the final standings is a difficult proposition. Expect a wide open race, as all five teams battle to secure the Central division’s two guaranteed playoff spots. (more…)
